7 Mobile Marketing Ideas For Photographers Using StickyAlbums

Mobile Marketing Ideas for Photographers Using StickyAlbums

As a modern photographer, it’s becoming increasingly important that you understand the impact of mobile devices on your business.

Photographers that ignore the impact mobile devices have on their business will lose clients. Those who embrace it early will have a huge advantage over other photographers, especially in the next few years as others attempt to “catch up”.

I was SHOCKED when I looked at my stats for this past month for my wedding photography business and saw that 24% of the pageviews came from mobile devices!

So when Nate, the founder of StickyAlbums, sent me free access to his new product that creates apps for your clients with their images, I saw the huge marketing potential they had and could not wait to give it a try.

I could not be more excited about it! So to help you get an edge over other photographers, here is an introduction to StickyAlbums and 7 Mobile Marketing Ideas for Photographers using StickyAlbums (plus a coupon code at the end, WOOT!)

How a Handshake Can Get You More Photography Clients

Get More Photography Clients with HandshakesThis week’s post is a guest post is written by Lea Hartman.

In our day and age of technology driven enterprise we often overlook the tried and true method of building a business: a good solid handshake. Yes, it’s true, back in our parents’ day there was no email marketing or online presence. Building a business was all about building a relationship – you couldn’t have one without the other.

This is a reality that has hit home for me living in the south. Down here the corner drug store is still going strong and independent beauty salons can be found throughout the area. How do these small businesses thrive with larger, often time cheaper, chain stores being built up all around them?

Relationship. People will continue to frequent a business that makes them feel at home, one that offers them personal attention and invests into their life.

When I was a kid, my dad used to order pizza from the same family owned pizza parlor. As time progressed, they learned who my dad was, what he normally ordered and eventually he was able to call up, say, “This is Don on Sparks. Could you send my usual?” and they’d know exactly what he needed and have it on it’s way. Who doesn’t love attention like that?

So, how can you incorporate this into your photography business?  [Click to read more]

Free Photography Business Tools

Free Photography Business Tools

Free stuff is really cool.

Free stuff that helps you earn more money and helps bring peace to your life is seriously legit.

Unrelated side note: Using word “legit” makes me feel young and trendy. But I’m not really. I’m a quirky mom with a camera that has a crazy love for business who is in no way a rock star. And I’m highly amused that I used it in this post, even though you’re probably rolling your eyes right now….

So, I’ve compiled a list of the best free photography business tools you’ll find here on The Modern Tog.  [Click to read more]

What to Expect When Working With a Graphic Designer

What to Expect When Working With a Graphic DesignerThis week’s post is a guest post is written by Mandi Pratt.

As business owners, we all want to present ourselves as professional and established so it is important that your branding looks professional (logo, website, marketing materials, etc.). The design and branding process usually takes quite awhile if you try and do it on your own, and unless you’ve got a design background, it isn’t going to look nearly as nice as if you had hired an expert to work with you.

The saying, “time is money” really applies here so I highly recommend hiring a designer to get your branding done and create something you love so you can get out there and start networking! The steps below will help you prepare yourself to work smoothly with a designer and will help you know what to expect in the process.

3 Ways to Increase Your Photography Income

Increase Photography IncomeThis week’s post is a guest post is written by Eli Powell.

Getting paid to do what you love is cool. Here’s something that’s not cool: Last year I made $3.75 an hour photographing weddings.

There, I said it.

I could have made more at McDonald’s or begging for change on the street. Needless to say, this is a problem.

This article contains 3 ways to increase your photography income. Using these steps, I’ve more than quadrupled my hourly earnings.

How Safe Are Your Photography Contracts if the Worst Happens?

Get Photography Contracts

Where did you get your current photography contracts? Did you have a lawyer review it?

Or did you hack together a contract from other photography contracts you’ve seen and just hoped that it would hold up in court?

Honestly, that’s what I did when I was first starting out, and I don’t recommend it. In fact, that’s what most photographers I know have done. I’d be willing to bet that you’ve done something similar. If not, good for you for doing things the right way and being smart about the legal side of your business. I wish I had done so earlier in our photography business.

I understand why you may not have, though. When you start your business, money is tight, lawyers are expensive, and you just don’t expect to have any problems. It’s not a valid excuse, but it’s one that many of us choose to believe because we simply don’t know where to start with getting a contract otherwise.

So I became ridiculously excited when my friend Rachel, who is both a photographer and a lawyer (WOOT!), decided to start offering her contracts to other photographers.  [Click to read more]

What Photography Pricing Guide is Best? A Comparison

One of the most common questions I get from readers is what the difference is between the various pricing guides out there, such as Easy as Pie, Creative Pricing & Packaging, my own free pricing guide, and others. Do you need to buy Easy as Pie? Or is my free pricing guide series enough? Or is there something else out there that is better?

Each of them have value, but they all significant differences and they aren’t all applicable to everyone. Instead of reviewing each guide separately, I thought it’d be helpful to do a mini-review of each of them and then compare them to each other. They don’t all directly talk about pricing, but each one of them is written with the goal of helping you increase your average sale, so they all are related in that way.

So this post is here to help you figure out which pricing guide is best for you so that you can stop wasting money on products that are not relevant to you and make sure that you’re getting exactly what you need to make more money in your photography business.

3 Time-Saving Tips to Reclaim Your Life During Busy Season

3 Time Saving Tips for Photographers

Photography is very seasonal. There are busy seasons and slow seasons.

For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s busy season again. It’s that time of year where we work more hours than most people could believe and spend far too many hours behind the computer when everyone else is enjoying the nice weather outside.

While having lots of business is a good thing, over the past few years I’ve found a few places that have made a HUGE difference in becoming more efficient and doing things faster. This means more time for me to do the things I really love, like spend with my family, and it means way less stress overall.

So here are my top 3 time-saving tips to help you reclaim your life during busy season.  [Click to read more]

Is Facebook Making You Pay to Show Up in the Newsfeed?

Facebook recently just rolled out the “Promote” button for Facebook pages that have more than 400 fans, causing widespread chaos and rumors that Facebook is now forcing you to pay in order for your fans to see your posts at all.

Take a deep breath. Don’t panic.

Nothing has actually changed in how you show up in the newsfeeds other than you can pay to show up MORE than before in the newsfeeds of your fans. Rates start at $5 and your post will have a “Sponsored” label added to it when people see it.

That being said, several months ago Facebook DID change how they show things in the newsfeed, and many pages have been affected by it. I know lots of people who swear that they no longer show up at all, however that’s not entirely true.

So let’s talk about why that happens and how to show up in the newsfeed without having to pay for it.
