How Bobby Pins and Band-Aids Get Me Business

I’m going to tell you a valuable business secret.

It’s one of the best ways to get new clients and referrals from current clients, and it’s super easy.

People will love you even before they see your photos, and clients won’t be able to stop raving about you.

It’s also one of the best ways to set you apart from your competition. I promise.

Anticipate and meet your clients’ needs

See, I told you it was simple.

As I was photographing a bride getting ready at a recent wedding, I heard a family member exclaim to the bride, “Who is this photographer? We need to hire her for ALL our events!!!!”

You’d thought I had done something ridiculously amazing, but all I did was pull a bobby pin out of my hair to help pin back a stray strand of hair on the bride. That’s it.

I purposefully add extra bobby pins to my hair on the day of a wedding so that I can pull them out at a moment’s notice to help with someone who needs one. I would say that I end up using them at at least 80% of my weddings. It’s rare that they don’t come in handy and women really appreciate it, especially when they are out on location and don’t have their own near by.

It’s amazing how much people appreciate little gestures like this, and it’s even more shocking how many people fail to do them! It can really set you apart and get people to tell you how amazing you are even before they’ve seen a single photo.

What are your clients’ needs? How can you easily meet them?

An arsenal of secret weapons

Here’s a list of things that can help set you apart from your competition (affiliate links – thanks for using them to buy your stuff!):

Bobby Pins – Women want to look gorgeous in photos. This helps them fix their hair and is super-appreciated when they are needed.

Band-Aids – Good for blisters from new shoes and small cuts.

A cooler filled with bottled water – great for the bridal party or family shoots on hot days.

Umbrellas – For rainy-day weddings.

Sole Mates – Keeps heels from sinking into the grass, making it easier to walk and keeping the heel clean.

A small scissors – Lots of uses, but especially good for tags on dresses that need to be removed carefully.

Granola bars or other small snacks – Good to keep people energized.
